Laptop Checkout Policies
Checking out a laptop
- To check out a laptop you must present two (2) forms of ID. The first must be your current UW campus ID card. The second must be an ID which has both a photo and signature (driver's license, passport, etc.).
- At the time of checkout you may be asked to sign a paper or digital record to indicate that you understand and agree to these policies. This is also to confirm that you have received all items included with the laptop and that they are in working condition.
- Laptops cannot be renewed.
Returning laptops
- The due date of your laptop can be looked up online at the UW InfoLab Laptop Checkout System.
- Laptops must be returned to the location from which they were checked out.
- Laptops must be turned in at least one hour before close on the day that the laptop is due. For locations that are open past midnight, laptops must be turned in before 11:00 pm.
Overdue Laptops/Fines
- Overdue fines for 3 day checkouts are $20 per day for every day or portion of a day that the laptop is overdue.
- Fines for overdue laptops will begin to accrue immediately after the checkout location closes (or at midnight if the location is open past midnight).
- Once a fine is applied to a person's record, that person will not be able to check out a laptop from any location until all fines are paid.
- Unpaid fines stay in the system indefinitely.
- Fines must be paid on-line and can only be paid with a credit or debit card. Fines are paid through the UW InfoLab Laptop Checkout System.
- On the fifth day that a laptop is overdue, InfoLab staff will escalate efforts to recover the laptop, potentially including contacting the Dean of Students and/or UW Police.
- Patrons are responsible for any damages and subsequent repair costs incurred while hardware is checked out to them.
